For years Cash-In-Transit employees along with Independent ATM Owners have been delivering cash and opening ATM’s for replenishment with nothing but paper. In 2021 this is still the case for some companies. Sure, the armored vehicles have GPS and a highly secure means of transporting items of value; however, the GPS for the trucks is tracking the vehicle.
The use of paper causes much research when errors occur, and research is needed. By tracking the movement of items of value you are also tracking the person(s) responsible for the movement and the associated activities. The importance of tracking the activity allows for the transfer of custody of items of value and the tracking of each person(s) whenever that transfer happens. This is true for ATM’s, Smart Safes, Bitcoin and any additional kiosks that may be in the Currency Supply Chain; and every cash point location that does not use kiosks.
There is also the issue of managing one time lock codes, whereas the telephone rings all day to and from dispatch. When a vehicle breaks down or bad weather occurs additional havoc is created. If dispatch needs to add a stop to a route for FLM/SLM or CIT services more paper is created in dispatch and in the field.
